This 1800-square-foot passive solar house overlooks Fulford Harbour, Weston and Stowel Lake watersheds and Mt. Maxwell on Salt Spring Island with the mountains of Vancouver Island beyond. Sited on a west-facing slope with a long single slope roof rising to the west the interior space captures light, and air. The crossing circulation serves to separate public and private spaces, provides controlled views across the interior and out to the landscape in four directions. Glulam timber roof frame, open planning, wide eaves for solar control on south and west walls which also provide rain protection at principle access points. Hydronic floors of douglas fir plank and black concrete which absorbs and re-radiates passive solar gain.
